Yoga is a booming topic nowadays, we all are doing Yoga since the pandemic has started but do we really know some essential things before we actually dig into it. on basis of my knowledge gained during my TTC programme, i have tried to mention some of the precautionary thumbrules, which are mandatory not only during yoga but for any kind of exercise.
Not to mention that we should always do yoga or exercise on an empty stomach. But if you feel week or if it is impossible for you to be on empty stomach then you can take any herbal tea like honey with lukewarm water, tulsi tea, lemongrass tea or hibiscus tea).
Then also make sure that you are done with your shauch kriya i.e. passing the stools before starting practice. because it will help you in performing the asanas without any gastric problem.
Now always staring by saying a prayer or at least remember your spiritual deity (Shiva) or whomever you follow and chant ‘OM’ thrice, as it will motivate you and also will be helpful for creating favorable environment for relaxation.
Then a warm up exercise should be done first to loosen up and stretching the body part, so that you don’t hurt yourself while doing the asanas. starting from the toe and ending to the neck.
For every asana always start with step 1 technique before moving towards the advanced, it will give you clarity about you body and breathing capacity. Try to use a mat with good grip so it doesn’t create any obstacle.
Focus on your breathing while performing any asana, if you feel any difficulty immediately stop and relax. Always breathe with your nostril not the mouth unless it is needed or instructed.
For maximizing the better results try to follow Satvik diet i.e. avoiding non-veg., specially meat, fried and junk food. Try to consume fresh home cooked food. No stored or frozen food should be allowed in your diet.
Always wear cotton comfortable and loose clothes to facilitate easy movements. And choose a well ventilated room for practice where you can get enough oxygen.
Last but not the least make sure you don’t push yourself harder, don’t hold your body tight there shouldn’t be any jerk, try to do every asana smoothly.
Complete the session with relaxation techniques to cool down the body. lie down n the floor and spread your legs and arms freely on the ground make sure your spine is completely grounded. there shouldn’t be any gap. Now close your eyes and try to concentrate on your breath. focus on each body parts from toe to crown. stay there for at least 5 minutes. Now when you feel fully relaxed open your eyes and get up by lying on one side either left or right.
